ACE
History
Imagine... the driving force of Reggae... the smooth grooves of R&B... the jagged edges of Rock... mix well, and now imagine the Jamaican Bass Player, simply known as 'ACE'.
'Ace' began his internship in the music biz in the early eighties, with a very inquisitive mind, always questioning the arrangements, composition and sounds of instrumentation heard each day from radio and telivision programing, in the city of KINGSTON, JAMAICA.
Fresh out of high school in the mid eighties, he began his journey as a musician placing no limits on the musical blend. The first colaboration was a college band that comprised of young enthusiastic friends blending creativity with little musical knowledge, all just having fun while creating quite a stir in the community at the same time. Of course, the experience brought 'Ace' a world of exposure and opened up a listership to folk and other NATIVE music forms.
After moving to London and having completed a course in Audio Engineering, 'ACE' again found himself drawn to creative energies in the form of a band that was not only a musical cross-section, but also a unit with various ethnic backgrounds. A British Drummer, West African Guitarist, Sweedish Saxophonist, Nigerian vocalist, brought a wide range of musical influences that comprised of Reggae, Rock, Funk, African and R&B. Needless to say it was an interesting and very enjoyable experience being with others of a similar mind-set, wanting to mix such diverse styles into one melting pot.
'ACE' returned to Jamaica and joined the Reggae/Rock group 'GIBBY',.. One that gained critical acclaim, was well recognized and featured on the cover of 'Billboard Magazine' for their adaptation of crossover music in early '96. Whilst continuously working in and out the studio, alongside some of Jamaica's better known artistes, performers and producers, Ace has also been playing bass for 'SOUL CASE', 'BLACK UHURU', 'ANGEL' world famous 'BIG MOUNTAIN', and 'LEON and THE PEOPLES'.
Ace is always ready to get into a good jam session, loves mixing his native reggae with other forms of music, and just "work with it".
